Liminal Drifter – Troubled Mystic
Published 2015
Released 19th August 2015 Troubled Mystic is the debut album by Australian electronic artist Liminal Drifter, featuring collaborations with English dream-pop artist Chloe March. Drawing on the seminal Warp releases of the ’90s, including Black Dog, Plaid and early Autechre, as well as more contemporary peers, Liminal Drifter evokes a spectrum of emotions across beautifully detailed electronic tapestries. Moving from downtempo dream-pop to shimmering, spacey electronica, this suite of songs works as if by osmosis, gently irradiating your subconscious.

This invocation of ghostly love was started in Lombok, Indonesia, in a villa named "Qesemsem". This translates to "Falling in Love". The Ghosts came later. Described as "a dreamy ghostly fusion of drum and bass, Crimsonesque guitars and dreamscapes", A Love Song for Ghosts is a new funkier Liminal Drifter moving fluidly between dance floor dream states.

A dreamy layering of inceptive arpeggios. Am I dreaming that I've woken up, or have I really woken up? How many layers of Inception are there? This track started in the bag search lounge at Dubai airport en route back to Perth, Western Australia. Airport lounges are like dreams. Plane travel is like a dream, jet lag is a dream. This track was finished when I was convinced I really was awake. I couldn't walk through walls anymore. Remembering dreams is a tough gig. "Adventures Beyond The Body" are dreams in sonic storage.

This sonic artefact was started 35,000 feet up flying across the Arabian peninsular, as a sketch on my iPad. I was flying high and trying not to eat the aircraft food. The "locked in" environment of modern plane travel, is like an inward-looking meditation. The senses are dulled by the roar of the journey; the mind turns inwards to movies, books and of course music. The focus of creativity has the potential to be heightened. The experience of flow is easier maybe to maintain; a reduced environment, almost devotional in it's simplicity.
