This project expands on Manovich’s (2006) concept of the Velvet Revolution as a blend of aesthetics and techniques that creates new species of moving image content; or “hybrid visual languages”. The language of compositing (or spatial montage) is often “spatial”, instead of the traditional temporal montage of editing. This project aims to explore a blend of these two aspects of moving image media–in compositing for space as well as time in a seamless presentation.

Vacuum Man is a part film, part digital video, music video, where the two are blended together into one seamless-medium narrative. It explores the existence of medium specificity at the disribution level, where two media (in this case being film and digital video) shot years apart can be blended together to erode the obviousness of their separate acquisition media.
