About me
Since 2008 I have been employed by Murdoch University as Senior lecturer in Veterinary Anaesthesia and analgesia within the School of Veterinary Medicine. In this role, I co-ordinate and perform the teaching of basic principles of anaesthesia to veterinary undergraduates during the third, fourth and fifth year of the veterinary course.
Additional teaching responsibilities include the supervision of HDR students with 8 completions ( 3 PhD, 1 MPhil and 5 RMT). I am currently supervising 2 PhD and 3 RMT students.
The focus of my research is on cardiopulmonary and renal function in anaesthetised animals with a special interest in horses and critically ill animals. This research has allowed me to develop expertise in cardiac output and blood pressure measurement, methods of assessing pulmonary function including EIT, spirometry and volumetric capnography and biomarkers of renal injury.
In addition I have collaborated with researchers from WA Health (Fiona Stanley hospital, Royal Perth Hospital, University of WA and Curtin University) on 10 projects. In addition I have consulted and assisted with anaesthesia of animals required for accredited training workshops for WA health.
