The authors thank all collaborators and members of the public that submitted photographs to Sharks And Rays Australia (). The SARA database was initially maintained by Jess Hudgins and assumed by VNB in October 2019. Measurements of sawfish caught, tagged, and released were taken by BEW for SARA (General Fisheries Permit No. 182626, 200015, 256550 Animal Ethics Approvals A2134, A2553, A25759, James Cook University Animal Ethics Committee), and by DM and KL for Murdoch University (WA Fisheries Permit No. 2400, 2959, 3684; Animal Ethics approvals RW2662/14 and R3136/19, Murdoch University Animal Ethics Committee). Rostra used in the accuracy study were donated to SARA by the public and Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. Measurements of rostra were taken by BEW, VNB, and SARA volunteers (Annmarie Fearing, Emmaline Hardy, Emily Robson) and interns (Lisa Stevenson, Ben Mooney, Maddison Jones). This study is part of a larger project on the biology and conservation of sawfishes in Queensland. It is funded by the Save Our Seas Foundation (Grant Nos. 309, 278, 457), a Small Grant from the Shark Conservation Fund, funding from the Sea World Research and Rescue Foundation Inc. and Winifred Violet Scott Charitable Trust, and funding from the Queensland Government (Office of the Chief Scientist Citizen Science Grant, and an Engaging Science Grant). Open access publishing facilitated by University of the Sunshine Coast, as part of the Wiley - University of the Sunshine Coast agreement via the Council of Australian University Librarians.
